Trekking to Lake Inle

Starting from Kalaw and ending in Lake Inle this was a fun and fascinating trek. It’s almost a must-do in Myanmar and for plenty of reasons. I enjoyed it immensely.

Nice landscapes and plenty of pine trees which were apparently introduced by the British during the colonial period. I love pine trees

Plenty of time to interact with locals. Our guide is on the left

Bandanaman and the sweaty back

There seems to be plenty of carts and few signs of “Chinese oxen” aka tractors as our guide joked

Chili peppers, so hot right now

An even better way to relax is with a Myanmar beer and a view of the sunset. The local villagers probably did not appreciate a group of boisterous foreigners roaming around with alcohol in hand though…

This trek was great for getting a glimpse of local life as we passed through many villages

Huge banyan trees are my favourite (sorry pines)

Our home for the second night of the trek was this monastery. I was very surprised to actually be sleeping inside the main temple hall and not in some tourist dorm. Great experience. When we arrived the monks were just enjoying a bit of football

A stroll out to enjoy the evening sunshine and definitely not to buy beers for the sunset
trek-to-inle-018
A monk runs back to the monastery. Maybe he’s late for prayers? Or more likely wants to get back to play football
trek-to-inle-019
An incredible spot to watch the end to the day with incredible people

The stars appear to rotate around the North Star as this long exposure also captures all the comings and goings at the monastery

The start of the third and final day was breathtaking

See? There are many carts around

A fantastic group of people made the trek (and the following visit to Lake Inle) as enjoyable as it was

Finally reached the big beautiful lake 🙂
